CHAPTER FIVE

The doctor smiled warmly and informed Felix he was good to go. “Thank you, Doctor.” Felix sat up and swung his legs over the edge of the bed.

“Tom, call me Tom.” He reached out his hand to Felix who took it without hesitation.

“Thank you, Tom,” Felix responded. He then looked around the room and saw only his Crimson uniform and wondered what he could wear. Tom saw and recognized the focus of his concern.

“My brother is about your size. If you’d like, I could borrow a few things for you to wear.” Dr. Peterson spoke carefully not wanting to insult with his offer.

“Yes, I’d appreciate it if you would.” Felix was told to wait for the Alpha to return and he’d like to be dressed when he arrived. He didn’t figure his Crimson Guard uniform would be received well by the locals, so would prefer some nondescript clothing.

“I’ll go get them and be right back.” The doctor assured.

Felix got up, slipped on his robe and walked around his room as he waited for the doctor’s return. He was looking out of the window observing an adjacent park when he heard the door to his room open. Naturally, he assumed it was Iver because it was too soon for Tom to have returned with his clothes. When he turned around, he was faced by a stranger.

Felix took a step towards the bed using it as an obstacle between him and the stranger. He felt negative emotions pouring off of the man and a tension on his face. He was a wolf shifter, and his anger was pushing his animal to the surface. Felix could see it in his eyes and in his posture.

Felix immediately took a defensive stance and readied himself for whatever the stranger planned.

“My name is Albert, and I am one of the Elders of this Pack.” Felix did not respond. The mood was not one of welcoming introductions, so he waited to find out what the man wanted. Albert took a step closer and appeared to be scenting the air. Felix kept his eyes on him gauging his next move.

Felix noticed that suddenly the heaviness in the room began to lift and the Elder’s fierce scowl was replaced with a look of smug satisfaction. It had a dismissive quality to it that made Felix want to attack the man just for spite.

It was Felix’s turn to take a step forward and place himself directly in front of the man. He moved closer when the man took a step back, good; he should be afraid. The smug look was gone, and fearful apprehension took its place. Felix did not like this man, Albert, and he wanted him gone. “Get out of my room.”

“You think that our Alpha will accept you as Alpha Mate, but all you have to do is sniff the air and it is clear that he will not.” Albert did not hide the contempt in his tone, but his fear still kept him at a distance from the vampire.
